چکیده
Abstract We analysed data on nucleotide polymorphism at 78 nuclear genes to search for signatures of divergence and selection in populations from across the distribution Pinus sylvestris Europe. Data variation a large set maternally inherited mitochondrial DNA markers were also analysed. Most loci showed homogeneous patterns Spain, Central Europe, Nordic countries Scotland. Mitochondrial did not reveal strong population structure but suggested admixture samples carrying different lineages certain parts distribution. At loci, we found high polymorphism, generally low differentiation weak signals isolation by distance. Together with results, these seem most likely be associated process colonization multiple sources efficient gene flow. The results are line demographic inference indicating establishment European before Last Glacial Maximum fronts mainland Europe Scottish populations. Coalescent outlier detection methods identified several showing molecular especially response temperature ecologically phenotypically divergent study provides analysis genetic diversity P. sylvestris, including candidate that implicated local adaptation divergence.

Hydraulic adjustment of Scots pine across Europe.
* The variability of branch-level hydraulic properties was assessed across 12 Scots pine populations covering a wide range of environmental conditions, including some of the southernmost populations of the species. The aims were to relate this variability to differences in climate, and to study the potential tradeoffs between traits. * Traits measured included wood density, radial growth, xylem...
متن کاملViability and seasonal distribution patterns of Scots pine pollen in Finland.
Germination ability and airborne counts of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) pollen were studied during the spring of 1993 at Turku in southern Finland (60 degrees 32' N, 22 degrees 28' E) and at Utsjoki in northern Finland (69 degrees 45' N, 27 degrees 01' E). Pollen waas trapped from the beginning of May to the end of June in a high-volume air sampler. Germination tests were performed to deter...
متن کاملCytogenetic response of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris Linnaeus, 1753) (Pinaceae) to heavy metals
We studied cytogenetic reactions of Scots pine seedlings to heavy metals - lead, cupric and zinc nitrates applied at concentrations 0.5 to 2000 µM. We determined the range of concentrations of heavy metals that causes mutagenic effect. Lead was found to cause the strongest genotoxicity as manifested by significant increase in the frequency of pathological mitosis, occurrence of fragmentations a...

Patterns of population structure and environmental associations to aridity across the range of loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L., Pinaceae).
Natural populations of forest trees exhibit striking phenotypic adaptations to diverse environmental gradients, thereby making them appealing subjects for the study of genes underlying ecologically relevant phenotypes. Here, we use a genome-wide data set of single nucleotide polymorphisms genotyped across 3059 functional genes to study patterns of population structure and identify loci associat...
